Virat Kohli was furious after he was run out in the third and final Test against New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Kohli made an error of judgement as he was caught short at the non-striker’s end after Matt Henry pulled off a direct hit at the fag end of the day’s play on Friday, November 1.
IND vs NZ, 3rd Test, Day 1 Updates
Kohli began his knock with a classy boundary through mid-wicket after Rachin Ravindra dished out a juicy full-toss. Just when it seemed that Kohli would see off the remaining overs and stay unbeaten until the end of the day’s play, he fell cheaply, leaving India in trouble.
In the third ball of the 19th over, Kohli tried to take a risky single off Ravindra. Henry, standing at mid-on, was quick with his reflexes and threw down the stumps with ease. The 35-year-old Kohli put in the dive, but it wasn’t good enough for him to make his crease.
Kohli scored four runs off six balls before being run out. From being at 78 for one in 17.1 overs, India lost three wickets in a space of eight balls. India finished Day 1 at 86 for four as they still trailed by 149 runs.
Kohli hasn’t had the best of outings thus far in the series, having scored only 92 runs from five innings at an average of 18.40. Barring his 70-run knock in the second innings of the opening Test in Bengaluru, Kohli has looked out of sorts.
Earlier, India bowled the Black Caps out for 235 in 65.4 overs. Ravindra Jadeja picked up a five-wicket haul after getting the wickets of Will Young, Tom Blundell, Glenn Phillips, Ish Sodhi and Matt Henry. Washington Sundar accounted for four scalps and also became the top wicket-taker in the ongoing three-match Test series.
